ACCI was saddened to learn of the passing of Ed Metzen in late 2015

ACCI would like to acknowledge and recognize the passing of Edward Metzen, former ACCI Executive Director (1966-1975), President (1975-1976), Distinguished Fellow Award Winner (1982) & Honor a Mentor Award Winner (1996), on Saturday, December 26, 2015. Edward became a faculty member at the University of Missouri in 1966 where he served as Chair of the Consumer and Family Economics Department until his retirement in 2000. He obtained his undergraduate degree in three years from Mankato State University, his master's degree from the University of Minnesota, and doctorate from MU. Edward’s primary focus was Business & Consumer Education and was influential throughout his entire career in shaping consumer policies. According to our ACCI Oral History, Edward described how he became involved in the consumer movement and specifically with ACCI:

  • “By way of involvement in the consumer movement, I think I'm just naturally bent in that direction. My propensity tends-in the social policy arena -- to be with the general public interest, and I think I've always been drawn to that.”
